Fix Attachments Icons View

If you are a Thunderbird user who has encountered wrong icon views when there are attached EML files with attachments within, you might want to give the Fix Attachments Icons View extension a try.

This helpful add-on fixes the incorrect icons view and tries to display the correct icon when an attachment has a generic mimetype. In addition, hidden preferences enable users to customize the view even further.

One of these is the fixattachiconsview.subattachments.mark_instead_skip preference which displays sub-attachments in the main window with a unique “[*]” before the file name. Another is the fixattachiconsview.app_octet_stream.show_icon_by_ext preference, which helps to find the appropriate icon when the mimetype is generic. Finally, fixattachiconsview.icon_mime.< extension > preference allows users to associate a mime type with a file extension to display the correct icon.

To use this extension, you must have Thunderbird 1.5 - 2.0.0.* installed. To install the extension, simply save the download file to your hard disk, open Add-ons from the Tools menu in Thunderbird, click Install, and then select the downloaded file. With Fix Attachments Icons View, you can enjoy more accurate icons views and greater customization options within Thunderbird.
