Fruit

Fruit is one of the strongest chess game engines available today. It is a relatively new engine that has already proven its worth by beating better known engines like Shredder at world champion tournaments. Fruit was originally available as Open Source till version 2.1 but new versions are now closed source.

This software is provided as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Some of the options are untested and may not be working as intended. The Play Style option "Gambit" is not working at this time and will use the "Very-Aggressive" setting instead when this is chosen.

Although certain features remain unfinished, it does not detract from Fruit's many useful options. For instance, Fruit offers a unique Play Style option that affects king attack and level. The Pawn Shield Soft and Hard options adjust the penalty for defects in pawn shielding, and Use PPP offers a bonus for having more pieces available for advancing your passed pawn then the opponent has available for stopping it. PPExt is a passed pawn extension that provides a significant advantage when used in conjunction with other search extensions.

Fruit's creator, Fabien Letouzey, has programmed an excellent chess engine that owes part of its success to the contributions of the computer chess community. The software is compatible with any chess GUI, making it a solid choice for anyone in need of a powerful chess engine. In summary, Fruit is an excellent chess engine capable of competing against the strongest engines on the market.
