Gentoox loader is a software tool used to boot Gentoox Linux on a modified Xbox console. It loads the operating system from the hard drive, giving Xbox users access to the Linux kernel and a range of applications. The tool is easy to install and configure.
I recently had the opportunity to test out the Gentoox loader, available both in .bin (BIOS) and .xbe (Xbox Executable) format. As an adaptation of the Gentoo source-based Linux distribution, Gentoox is compiled from Stage 1 with full optimizations specifically designed to run on a Microsoft Xbox games console. However, it requires either software or hardware modifications to run.
One of the benefits of Gentoox is that it can run alongside your favorite games without any issues. During installation, users have the option to choose between E, F, and Native installation choices. With both E and F, a loopback filesystem is created so that none of the drives are formatted during installation (except for cache partitions). On the other hand, choosing "Native" will format the F: partition to ReiserFS, which makes it inaccessible to Xbox applications.
Loading Gentoox is an easy process as it can be done via either a .xbe file or from a Cromwell-based BIOS which can be flashed to your modchip during installation. There is no need to worry about any potential risks as E and F installations are entirely risk-free. If you do not end up liking Gentoox, deleting all of the files it installs (around 7 in total) will remove it from your system.
Lastly, it is important to note that all versions of Gentoox are entirely free and open source. Overall, I found Gentoox to be a reliable and efficient software that allowed me to use my Xbox for purposes beyond just gaming. Its ease of use and flexibility make it a great choice for anyone looking to expand their Xbox's capabilities.
