GFileRunner

GFileRunner is a file manager that is based on GNOME and is designed to be a faster and more powerful alternative to Nautilus. While it currently offers many of the same features as Nautilus, it is faster and more responsive in many areas. However, there are some areas where it is slower or not yet fully functional.

Despite these limitations, GFileRunner is already about halfway usable and should provide hope for people with slower machines. If you are looking for a file manager that offers a smoother and more efficient experience, this software is definitely worth considering.

To use GFileRunner, you will need a Linux or similar *NIX based system. While it has mainly been tested on Linux, it should work with other compatible systems. Additionally, you will need to have GTK+ 1.2 and the GNOME 1.4 libraries installed, including libgnomevfs and libgnomeui. Other required libraries include GdkPixbuf 0.10.0, libxml 1.0, and libart 2.2.0. Optional libraries include FreeType2 6.1.0 and librsvg 1.0.0 for SVG support.

The latest version of GFileRunner includes several improvements and bug fixes. This release will likely be the last version for GNOME 1.4, as the developer is already working on porting to GNOME 2.2 under a new project name, Velocity. Some of the new features in this version include desktop support, a new image caching system, basic drag and drop functionality, and a plugin system.

For the best experience, it is recommended that you install GFileRunner in the same location as your GNOME installation. There is also an optional icon package available to enhance the user experience, but it is a separate download to save on storage space and avoid additional dead time between releases.
