This GNOME application features a set of standard sample files that are necessary for most applications. These files are pre-installed and can be easily accessed from within the application, providing users with a range of helpful data to work with.
I recently had the opportunity to use a software that enhances the functionality of GNOME Applications both inside and outside the GNOME CVS Tree. To make this possible, I followed a few simple steps. Firstly, I made use of an `INSIDE_GNOME_COMMON' automake conditional which is defined in two different places. The `macros/aclocal-includes.m4' always defines the conditional to be false while `gnome-common/configure.in' does not include anything from macros and therefore defines the conditional to be true. This automake conditional is then used in the `macros/Makefile.am' to install $(MACROS), autogen.sh, gnome-common.m4, and a newly created gnome macros.dep in `$(datadir)/aclocal/gnome'.
The installation of these files is safe even when compiling from CVS as aclocal does not look in subdirectories. Furthermore, there is no need to modify any existing application in the GNOME CVS Tree. When outside the GNOME CVS Tree, aclocal simply has to be directed to look in `$(datadir)/aclocal/gnome' to find all the macros. Additionally, there is a `gnome-skel' module available in CVS that can be used as a starting point when writing a new GNOME Application meant to be used outside CVS.
Overall, I found this software to be extremely helpful in enhancing the functionality of GNOME Applications both inside and outside the GNOME CVS Tree. The steps required to make the software work were straightforward and easy to follow.
