gnome-raw-thumbnailer

I recently reviewed gnome-raw-thumbnailer, which is largely based on Dave Coffin's parse.c and Bastien Nocera's totem-video-thumbnailer. While the thumbnailer is robust in many aspects, there are a couple of kinks that need to be addressed to make it a perfect fit for every user.

Firstly, the thumbnailer currently lacks support for auto-rotation. Additionally, the software fails to install its metadata (gconf schema and shared-mime-info) into the appropriate directories.

However, despite these shortcomings, the installation process is straightforward. Simply run the following commands: ./configure && make && make install. Afterward, copy the file gnome-raw-thumbnailer.xml to /usr/share/mime/packages and run `update-mime-database /usr/share/mime`. Following this, copy the file gnome-raw-thumbnailer.schemas to /etc/gconf/schemas and run `GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`gconftool-2 --get-default-source` gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule gnome-raw-thumbnailer.schemas`.

Now, to complete the installation process, restart Nautilus and enjoy the benefits of gnome-raw-thumbnailer. While there is certainly room for improvement, especially regarding the lack of auto-rotation and imprecise metadata installation, this software is still well worth considering for any user looking to enhance their raw image file processing abilities.
