Developed by Andreas Bauer
GnoScan is a network scan and security software that comes with an intuitive graphical user interface. This multi-threaded program is a standalone application, which means that it doesn't require any third-party toolkits to function, making it a reliable choice for security-conscious users.

The software can be run under the Gnome environment and needs the following requirements: GTK+ libraries equal to or more than version 1.2.7, Gnome libraries equal to or more than version 1.4.0, and Posix Threads. Don't worry; most systems support the last requirement. You also need GTK-- libraries equal to or more than version 1.2.7, Gnome-- libraries equal to or more than version 1.2.1, and libsigc++.

To install GnoScan, the gtk/gtkmm macros must be correctly installed on your computer. If your GTK-- installation is located in /usr/local, then you should become root and execute the following steps: cd /usr/share/aclocal and cp /usr/local/share/aclocal/*.m4. Alternatively, you could use symbolic links to these files. By doing this, you make sure that the necessary definitions needed for autoconf are in the correct place. If your gtk/gtkmm macros are installed in /usr, then these steps are not necessary. However, if you're uncertain, just run the configure script, and it will tell you what to do.

To install GnoScan from the source code, follow these steps: change to the GnoScan distribution directory and run ./configure. You can call configure with the --help parameter to get a list of available configuration options. This command will create a Makefile in your source code directory. You can take a look at it if you want, though it's not necessary. Once the configure command has worked correctly, you can compile the GnoScan source code by running make. If you haven't changed any of the predefined values for configure, GnoScan will be installed in /usr/local/bin. Don't forget to become 'root' and run make install after compilation.

Overall, GnoScan is an excellent choice for network scanning and security with a user-friendly interface, reliable performance, and straightforward installation.
