GOPDIT (GOP Accurate Editor) is a simplistic program that specifically allows you to cut and merge MPEG2-PS files at GOP boundaries without having to re-encode them. It is possible to 'zoom in' to speed up the search for the correct cut point; this works by making the slider range over a smaller section of the file.
Ultimately, the program cuts just before the pack headers, which precede a GOP, and the transition results highly depend on the method of MPEG2 encoding used. While Hauppauge cards seem to work well, the behavior of other encodings is highly unpredictable, so additional processing may be necessary to generate desirable outputs.
The application has several limitations, including crashes, and end of file handling isn't entirely clean yet. As well, only GOP boundaries before or after the picture are displayed, and there are cases where the GUI may behave oddly. Users should stick to the recommended Linux distributions since some may not be able to detect the QT installation correctly.
