If you're looking for a fast and convenient way to transfer your digital photos from almost any serial-port or USB digital camera, then gphoto2 is the application for you. It uses the programming interface provided by libgphoto2, making it easy for digital camera users to get images into their PC.

Digital cameras have the perfect balance of quality, features, and price that appeals to users. You can spend a lot more or a lot less than the $100 to $3000 it costs for a camera, but the low end won't have good quality and the high end isn't affordable. The best place to be with digital cameras is in the middle. They offer fun, immediacy, and convenience that can't be matched by any other image-capture option for your computer.

Unlike with a scanner, you don't need an existing image to work with. A digital camera lets you capture what you see in real-time. Additionally, unlike with film-to-disk services, development is instantaneous, meaning that you don't have to wait hours or days for your images to become available on your computer.

Apart from convenience, digital cameras are also inexpensive to operate, as the only recurring costs are batteries. The camera's storage is reusable after you download a batch of images, and since you don't have to pay for film processing, you're able to capture as many images as you want.

Unfortunately, many digital camera manufacturers refuse to share their camera communication specifications with their customers and millions of users who run free operating systems. This is a big obstacle to development of free photo applications, as it blocks free software developers from writing programs that support the same features as the proprietary digital camera programs on Microsoft Windows and MacOS that are usually shipped with the camera. This limitation renders the camera useless if you don't use one of these proprietary operating systems.

Overall, if you want to enjoy the benefits of digital cameras, gphoto2 is a great tool to help you transfer your images to your computer. It's easy to use and will allow you to capture and store your images easily and quickly.
