Gqcam, a Linux counterpart of QuickPict, is designed to work with the QuickCam device, allowing users to capture images and videos effortlessly.
Gqcam is a Linux software that has been designed to mimic the QuickPict tools that are commonly found on QuickCams. The original code was developed using GTK+ for the frontend, Alex Belits' qcread as the backend, and general C code to tie everything together.
Even though Gqcam still employs the use of GTK+ for the frontend, Version 0.2 has incorporated the Video4Linux user interface as the main backend. In order to compile Gqcam, a Linux machine running Video4Linux support and a QuickCam (the old grayscale parallel port model) and GTK+ are required.
Although Gqcam is still in the early stages of development, it can already work with both grayscale and colored QuickCams, although it doesn't yet support QuickCam VC and any other new models made by Logitech/Connectix.
Gqcam boasts several notable features, including brightness control, white balance and contrast control, three different size settings, two depth settings, freezing and snapping pictures (which are saved in PNG, PPM, and JPEG formats), a command-line interface for ease-of-use with webcam support, and even a timer for picture snapshots.
Gqcam can function with a variety of cameras, including the Greyscale and Color Quickcam, the CPiA based cameras, and those that support the read() command such as the Ezonics EZcam, Creative Web-Cam II, Philips USB PCVC675K, Webcam III, TerraCAM USB, and the Plustek OptiCam 300U, to name a few.
