Gv4l is a graphical user interface that enables users to record video and audio streams via V4L (Video for Linux) functions using transcode software.
If you're looking for a GUI frontend to help with your video (and audio) recording needs, Gv4l might be just the program you're looking for. Designed to work with V4L (Video For Linux) functions of transcode, Gv4l can record streams from various V4L devices, such as webcams and tuners, in both encoded (Xvid, DivX, etc.) or raw video formats.
To use Gv4l, you'll need to have at least transcode-0.6.7 installed. It's recommended that you also have xawtv installed since transcode uses the xawtv configuration file ($HOME/.xawtv) to obtain channel, brightness, contrast, and other information.

The Gv4l team has made some changes while working on the project, including recreating the program with glade and executing gettextize and supporting stuff. Additionally, they've updated the Makefile.am by adding m4 to SUBDIRS, included ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS as a new variable, and added config.rpath mkinstalldirs to EXTRA_DIST in configure.in. They've also changed the way .xawtv is read, eliminating obsolete chunks so that the code is now more efficient.
