Hacknoid is an exceptional software that is the ultimate 3D Arkanoid clone. This software has evolved from the ball-and-paddle games that were initially developed in the early 70s with Atari's Pong. Hacknoid offers new challenges, and it is the first version that is genuinely three-dimensional.
The primary goal of Hacknoid is to complete all the levels of the game. To achieve this, you must destroy all the bricks present in that specific level. The bricks are the "blocks" that appear in two levels, one just above the midpoint of the screen, and the other on the top of the screen.
In order to destroy the bricks, you use your ball. Initially, you are provided with 5 balls (possibly less if you have continued the game), and use them one at a time. With a left-click on your mouse, you make the ball appear on your paddle. Press the button again to release the ball and begin the level. The ball will eventually leave your paddle on its own if you wait too long. The ball bounces off the bricks above you, breaking them in the process. The ball also bounces off the ceiling and the four walls of the playing field. When it comes back to the bottom, move your paddle underneath it to bounce the ball back up again. Failure to contact the ball with your paddle will result in a lost ball, and you'll need to start again with another ball.
The paddle appears flat, but it has a rounded shape, allowing it to rebound the ball in different directions depending on where it hits the paddle. As you play a level, the bricks also get older and decay. If you take too long, the bricks will fall away on their own. Ensure that you break all the bricks because if they fall away, you get no points or credit for them. Top-level bricks, when they are broken, release bonus items. Some of these items will give you extra power or points. But, there are some you don't want to pick up, so be cautious.
With 50 different levels and 13 bonus items, Hacknoid's intuitiveness and 3D playing field make it an exciting software to use. Additionally, the software also includes level bonuses for accuracy and an online Global High Score List.
