Hosting Backup

Hosting Backup is a PHP software that allows you to backup your hosted web sites to your local computer. It works smoothly with Linux servers and MySQL databases using FTP. With HostingBackup, you don't need to compile PHP with mcrypt since it uses rc4 encryption.

This software uses lftp () to download all your files from your remote server. HostingBackup is tested on Linux local computers with PHP 4.3.x and lftp 3.0.x. The remote component manages multiple operations such as optimization and dump of MySQL databases. On the other hand, the local component takes care of the execution of backups and other utilities such as the generation of crypted passwords and the automatic installation of the remote component.

What makes Hosting Backup stand out is its easy way of backing up all hosted MySQL databases. Hosting Backup stores the main password for the account directly on the remote server, encrypted with rc4. When we call the dump script, we pass the decrypt key. As such, an attackers would need to read the encrypted password written on the server and intercept the key on the net to catch the login data.

In this release, HostingBackup has added "--comments=false", "set FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;" to mysqldump, and "--add-drop-table" to mysqldump. Overall, this is a reliable software that provides an easy and efficient way to backup your hosted web sites.
