The HPI Utilities package is a system management tool that adheres to the SA Forum's Hardware Platform Interface specification. Users can access it across platforms that include an HPI library implementation, offering hardware independence. The HPI library on Intel platforms requires an IPMI driver. You can obtain an IPMI driver from either the OpenIPMI driver (/dev/ipmi0) or the Intel IPMI driver (/dev/imb) in Linux kernel versions 2.4.20 and greater.

The rpm typically defaults to the Intel imb driver. However, if you want to switch to using the OpenIPMI driver with this package, you can execute these commands after installing the rpm package:

cp /usr/lib/libSpiModIpmi.so /usr/lib/libSpiModIpmi.so-imb

cp /usr/lib/libSpiModIpmi.so-open /usr/lib/libSpiModIpmi.so

sed -e 's/imb/ipmi0/' /etc/hpi/spi-daemon.conf >/tmp/spi

cp /tmp/spi /etc/hpi/spi-daemon.conf

Note that this HPI library is currently configured to use the /dev/imb interface since it is compatible with Intel Server Management software. However, you may opt for the OpenIPMI driver, which also has imb emulation as an option.
