Ickle is a software client for ICQ2000 that uses the graphical toolkit GTK+. It allows users to access their ICQ accounts and communicate through the platform's messaging system with a modern, user-friendly interface.
I recently tried out a new ICQ2000 client called ickle, and was quite impressed by its features and functionality. As a non-windows user, I was excited to see that ickle aims to bring all of the useful features of ICQ2000 to users like myself.
One of the key features that stood out to me was the ease of sending and receiving messages via ickle. Additionally, it also allows for URL sending and receiving. Another great feature is the ability to send and receive SMS messages, including delivery reports.
I found that ickle also offers a range of useful status changes, and is able to fetch user information from the server. It also allows for setting and customizing away messages, as well as handling authorization requests and "User Added You" messages.
Other features that I found particularly useful included autoconnect, autoreconnect, and retries. The history browsing was easy to navigate, and I liked the integration with the GNOME applet.
For those who prefer command-line control, ickle offers the option to control it that way through ickle_control. Additionally, the automatic timer for autoaway is a handy feature. The ability to execute shell-commands on events is also a standout feature which I found to be extremely useful.
Overall, I found ickle to be a reliable and feature-rich client for non-windows users of ICQ2000. It does an excellent job of bringing all of the essential features of the original client to a new platform. If you're looking for a robust ICQ2000 client, be sure to check out ickle!
