Installing the fonts is a straightforward process. After extracting the font archives to $WORKDIR, run the following commands: cd $WORKDIR, ./configure, make install. The fonts are then installed in /usr/local/share/emacs/fonts in PCF format, with BDF font files being installed in /usr/local/share/emacs/fonts/bdf. If you wish to install the fonts in a different directory, use the --with-fontdir=$INSTDIR option.
Other options are available for the configure script, such as compressing PCF fonts (--enable-compress[=ARG] where ARG=gzip), installing PCF fonts (--with-pcf[=ARG] where ARG=yes on Unix and ARG=no on DOS), installing BDF fonts (--with-bdf[=ARG] where ARG=yes), and installing Type1 fonts (--with-type1[=ARG] where ARG=no).
After installing the fonts, you need to inform your X server about them. xset fp rehash can be used to update the font hash table if $INSTDIR is already in your font path. On the other hand, you can make one X session use the installed fonts with xset +fp $INSTDIR. In some systems, giving an absolute pathname to the xset command may be necessary.
