iwy

I recently had the opportunity to try out iwy, a fractals generator software that I found to be both fast and easy to use. For those who may not be familiar with the term, a fractal can generally be described as a fragmented geometric shape that can be subdivided into parts, each of which is an approximately reduced copy of the whole. The concept was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and comes from the Latin word "fractus" meaning "broken" or "fractured".

Fractals, as a geometric object, tend to have several distinct features. Firstly, they have a fine structure at arbitrarily small scales, meaning that they can be very detailed. Secondly, they are too irregular to be easily described in traditional Euclidean geometric language. Thirdly, they are self-similar, meaning that they have a similar appearance at different scales. Fourthly, they have a Hausdorff dimension greater than their topological dimension, although space-filling curves such as the Hilbert curve do not meet this requirement. Lastly, they have a simple and recursive definition.

To install iwy, I followed a few simple steps including bzip2 -cd iwy-1.0.tar.bz2, cd iwy-1.0, ./configure, make, make install, and finally, iwy. Overall, I found iwy to be a very user-friendly program that allowed me to quickly and easily generate fractals.
