Jameleon project is an automated testing framework that comes in handy for both technical and non-technical users. One of its key concepts is the group of keywords or tags that represent different screens of an application. Java logic can define all the automation requirements of each specific screen, which can be mapped to these keywords. With this workflow, these keywords can be combined with diverse data sets to build test scripts without the need for deep knowledge of the application's functioning.
These test scripts are then used in automating testing efforts and generating manual test case documentation. Jameleon was developed to test various kinds of applications, so it was designed with a plugin model in mind. Currently, there are five plug-ins: a JUnit plug-in, a Jiffie plug-in, an HttpUnit plug-in, a 3270 (Jagacy) plug-in, and a jWebUnit plug-in.
If Jameleon does not have a specific plugin or feature, users can request it with the "Request a Feature" link. Implementing Jameleon plugins is a straightforward process that doesn't typically take more than an hour. Even though it's possible to write unit tests using Jameleon, the framework was designed with integration, regression, functional, and acceptance-level testing in mind. Good unit tests can detect and solve most bugs, but the need to test the entire application remains prominent.
In version 3.3 RC1 Development Release, some results bugs regarding IE 6 and IE 7 were fixed along with the generation of outcome based on desired character set. Additionally, this release runs against Java 1.4.2, 5.0, and 6.0.
