Jpeginfo

Jpeginfo is a useful utility for generating informative listings and checking for errors in JPG/JPEG files. The program also includes an automagic deletion feature for broken jpegs. Jpeginfo is currently available for Linux and OSX but can be compiled on any decent Unix system. The latest version of the software uses GNU autoconf.

To use jpeginfo, simply input the filenames you wish to process using the command: jpeginfo [options] < filenames >. The following options are available:

-c, --check: check files for errors
-C, --comments: display comments (from COM markers)
-d, --delete: delete files with errors
-f< filename >, --file< filename >: read the filenames to process from a given file (use '-' for standard input)
-h, --help: display program help and exit
-5, --md5: calculate MD5 checksum for each file
-i, --info: display more information about pictures
-l, --lsstyle: use an alternate listing format (ls -l style)
-v, --verbose: enable verbose mode (positively chatty)
--version: print program version and exit
-q, --quiet: output jpeg infos in quiet mode
-m< mode >, --mode=< mode >: defines which jpegs to remove when using the -d option. Mode can be set to erronly for only files with serious errors or all for files containing warnings or errors (default).
