Karbon14

I recently tried out Karbon, a vector-based drawing application for KOffice. As an artist, I was impressed with how Karbon allows users to create intricate designs without losing image quality when zooming in or resizing the drawing. It is also possible to add finishing touches to diagrams created using Kivio or charts created using KChart.

One of the most significant differences between vector-based drawing applications like Karbon and pixel-based drawing applications like Krita is how the drawing is stored. In a vector drawing, such as the one created using Karbon, the drawing is stored as geometric shapes like lines and curves, so the image scales smoothly when resized. Meanwhile, pixel-based drawings are stored as individual dots (or pixels) in rows and columns, so resizing often leads to pixelation and aliasing, resulting in a decrease in the image quality.

Karbon is ideal for creating cartoon drawings or editing clip art that often requires resizing to fit in a document or poster. In contrast, Krita is more suitable for painting pictures or editing photographs. Karbon's easy-to-use interface made it a breeze to transform my graphic design ideas into high-quality illustrations.

One great feature of Karbon is that users can quickly get started by modifying some of the images from the Open Clip Art Library. Overall, I would highly recommend giving Karbon a try for anyone looking for a top-quality vector-based drawing application.
