KBookRipper is a CD-ripping software designed for audio books on CDs, utilizing cdparanoia technology for high-quality audio extraction.
KBookRipper is an efficient CD-ripper based on cdparanoia, specifically designed for audio books delivered on CD. This project allows the user to rip a set of CDs with the same meta data, with the output format being OGG, instead of MP3. The software assumes that the CDs form part of an audio book.
I created KBookRipper out of frustration since the meta data for a book, delivered on several CDs, was usually inconsistent, and frequently missing for at least one of the CDs, making it challenging to rip books with K3B. However, with this software, users can enter meta data such as author, title, and published year, which will be used for each CD in the book. The only meta data that changes is the CD-number, which is increased automatically.
Each book is stored on disk and kept together, and files are named on the assumption that they form part of a book. This feature has been particularly useful for me, as I have ripped approximately 150 audio books and stored them on my OGG-player since the output of this program is ogg-files. Unfortunately, there is no option to create MP3-files despite it being a GPLed software. Lame takes about the same command options as the oggenc takes.
The application is made with Kommander, and the working part is written in bash, with the script relying on cdparanoia and oggenc. A command called "play" is used to play a little blip signaling that a CD is done. However, the script will fail if cdparanoia, or oggenc, is missing, whereas the blip is likely to fail if the command "play" is absent.
I have used this software for about one hundred books, and I created the GUI myself, which might disqualify me from providing unbiased feedback about the GUI's usability. Regardless, feel free to send me an email and give me feedback. If anyone thinks this application is useless, please let me know why.
