KFreeFlight is a software program that provides a graphical user interface for FlightGear, allowing users to navigate and control virtual aircraft in a realistic and immersive environment.
KFreeFlight is a GUI-frontend for FlightGear. With KFreeFlight, launching FlightGear with the most common options is easy and does not require typing a long command line. With just a few clicks, one can take to the skies. The reason to use KFreeFlight is that many other programs do not offer the common options I need, such as NMEA, or cannot be set up for an "exotic" GNU/Linux distribution like GENTOO or LFS, or a source-based installation of FlightGear.
It is important to note that the options entered into KFreeFlight are not verified by the program and incorrect options, such as using a character instead of a number, can make FlightGear unstable. There are also known bugs with some aircraft not displaying pixmap due to being in a different directory (e.g. seafireIII in the spitfire directory) and sometimes spaces appearing when reloading the configuration. In such cases, using QString::stripWhiteSpace() can solve the issue, and users are encouraged to contact the developer if the problem persists.
For installation on Linux, the following steps need to be followed: ./configure, make, and make install. If the user has an exotic KDE installation, such as on GENTOO, they can type ./configure --prefix=Path/to/KDE/Directory, like /usr/kde/3.4/, for example.
