Kite

I recently had the opportunity to review the Kite project, a programming language meant to simplify the programming experience as much as possible. Kite is designed to optimize both development and running time, as well as minimize CPU and memory usage. As a relatively new project, further exploration of its capabilities is encouraged.

In order to get started with Kite, simply visit DownloadKite and download the most recent version available for your platform. Note that, at this time, the language is only available in source form. Be sure to install any prerequisites that aren't already installed on your system; for more information on the necessary prerequisites, visit KitePrerequisites.

Once the tarball is downloaded, untar it on your local system. For Unix platforms, run the command "tar xvzf kite-version.tar.gz," where "version" is the latest version available. This command should create a folder with the same name as the tarball, but without the ".tar.gz" extension. From here, simply navigate into the folder and edit the Makefile using your preferred text editor. Pay special attention to the "CPP," "ANTLR," "INCLUDES," "LIBS," and "INSTALLTO" fields, ensuring that each matches your unique system setup.

In general, "INCLUDES" and "LIBS" correspond to the ANTLR include files and libraries, respectively. If you're using Mac OSX with Fink, ANTLR is typically installed under "/sw," while FreeBSD and most other Unix distributions utilize "/usr/local" or another similar folder. Once you've edited the Makefile, simply run the "make" command.

If there are no errors, the final step is to run the "make install" command. This installs the Kite binary into your chosen directory (usually "/usr/local/bin"). Overall, I found the setup process for Kite to be straightforward and well-documented, laying a solid foundation for continued exploration of this promising project.
