Knotview

Knotview is a software that combines the functionalities of a concept mapper, a wiki, and a database. Its primary goal is to break down information into small chunks, or knots, and create links between them. Knotview doesn't enforce visual organization, allowing users to draw links arbitrarily. This feature gives users the power to decide how information is presented.

Knotview provides an easy way to bring scattered information together by allowing users to create links pointing towards files or URLs. Knotview can be utilized as a powerful bookmark manager, mind mapper, or small database. The standout feature of Knotview is that it separates content from appearance.

Each knot comprises three elements: a title, arbitrary properties, and an associated text. The knots are stored in a database (kdb), which doesn't include any displaying information. Display is left to a client application that saves it in a separate file (kv). This feature permits users to display the same knot multiple times within the same application or use other applications to display the knot simultaneously. Although this feature is still planned, Knotview's ability to show information differently depending on user needs is outstanding.

Knotview enables users to assign one or more categories to each knot based on the knots' type. This feature allows users to set shorts of 'types' to knots, affecting the displayed knot color. In a dictionary, for example, nouns, verbs, and adjectives can be assigned different categories, while feminine and masculine can be used to differentiate other types. The tutorials provide more examples of how to use this feature.

Knotview's system requirements are Python. The 0.2.0 RC2 development release fixed a bug that prevented knot creation in the kdb browser dialog and a few other bugs in knotdb.
