LinWarrior 3D is an open-source Mech game that resembles classic Mech games and simulators. It is a game where you control a giant walking tank that navigates through an open landscape. The primary target of LinWarrior 3D development is single-player campaigns rather than realistic graphics or physics. The game is not exclusively bound to any specific classic title, and the feel of control should not be FPS-like, but it may still be arcade-like and surrealistic.
The game's core is what is currently under development, and it implements the actual mecha-piloting or mission-game-play as a stand-alone-program. Initially, missions are hardcoded, but eventually, they will be file-based so that missions and components of mechs may be defined in files. The Core will return a result-value indicating mission success or failure. Bounty may be stored in a file.
The game will provide higher-level campaigning, financing, investment, trading, customizing, storytelling, or role-playing that the Sim-Core itself does not cover. Since it is separated from the actual Core, it may be implemented in any technology that can start another program. The Frontend generates a mission file to the game-core that includes the player's, NPC's, and opponent's mech-configurations. Suitable frontend technologies include 2D, text-based, SDL, windowed, swing, html-browser, among others.
The Terra-Forming-Tool will provide a means to model and define Missions separated from the Simulation-Core to keep unnecessary complexity away. A simple Terra-Forming-Tool provides a 2D eagle view on a map where symbols indicating objects can be placed. This tool allows for a vast amount of mods based around different themes and stories.
