I recently had the opportunity to try out Mailwall and I have to say, I am impressed. This software is a powerful tool for protecting your mail domain from all types of e-mail threats before they have the opportunity to affect your network.
One of my favorite features of Mailwall is how it receives inbound mail first, checks it, and forwards it to your mailserver. This ensures that any threats or unwanted content are dealt with immediately, keeping your network safe from harm. Outbound mail can also be configured to go through Mailwall, ensuring that there are no threats leaving your network either.
Mailwall disassembles e-mail messages on your network and looks for anything out of the ordinary, including SPAM exploits, macro viruses, and malicious HTML code. The system is rules-based, which means you can automatically filter, delete or quarantine suspicious messages. This ensures you are in control of what content is allowed to make it through onto your network.
What's great about Mailwall, too, is that it works with all mail servers and doesn't require any changes in setup for your existing e-mail users. You can install it on a separate machine or reconfigure your mail server to release port 25 for Mailwall.

There's also improved POP3 server module, a manager module to aid automatic recovery, and an option to organize quarantine by date. Additionally, the team has improved the queue manager with a message search facility, added support for modifying message subject, and added logging, blacklist and imagecat databases to the standard distribution. Finally, the default list of blacklists has been updated for better spam detection, and all valid message recipients are now excluded from future spam checks.
