mICQ is an impressive and highly portable ICQ software that functions in text-mode. This ICQ clone is capable of compiling under various operating systems, including AIX, BSD, AmigaOS, HPUX, Windows, and Linux. This software was initially created by Matthew D. Smith, and a good portion of it was rewritten by RĂ¼diger Kuhlmann. The new version, mICQ has support for version 8 of the ICQ protocol, internationalization, file transfer, and code restructuring.

mICQ offers several useful features that make it stand out. Firstly, it supports both the old v6 and new v8 protocol logins. The registration of new UINs and setting up of configurations is effortless with the easy-to-use setup wizard feature. Users can change their passwords, and the software will reconnect them to the server when kicked. There is a complete contact list with various ways of displaying online and offline users.

Users can set their status arbitrarily, send and receive messages and URLs, and send acknowledged messages to clients who understand them. Additionally, there is support for UTF-8 encoded messages, sending SMS to user's cell phone, requesting and updating all user and personal information, and an easy search command. Users can be visible to specific users even when appearing invisible, or invisible to certain users at any given time.

The software has the ability to completely ignore certain users, request a user from an interest group and establish one's interest group, and beep or execute arbitrary commands when other users go online, offline or send a message. Connections can be displayed, one can check whether someone is offline or just invisible, and there is full support for v8 direct connections, SSL encrypted connections, and scripting via the Tcl scripting language feature.

Furthermore, mICQ offers full support of sending/receiving v6,v7,v8 (batch) file transfers and can write a log of all messages to and from a user. Debugging is easy as users can select what data to display, including the concise packet monitor. The software is available in multiple translations, including English, German, Serbian, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Japanese, partially Russian, French, Spanish, Romanian, and Italian. Lastly, mICQ transcodes texts for Russian and Japanese users, and it supports connections via socks5.

It is evident that mICQ is an exceptional software that offers several features that make communication via ICQ more manageable and enjoyable. Its broad compatibility and easy-to-use interface make it a must-have for anyone who uses ICQ. Its multipurpose options make this software an outstanding choice for messaging and managing ICQ conversations.
