Modell

I recently had the pleasure to use and review Modell, a modular and object-oriented variant of the LISP programming language that is especially suitable for embedding in applications that use a C++ API. As a C++ library, Modell also comes with a command-line interactive interpreter for testing and rapid development, which includes modules for diverse tasks such as math, strings processing, interaction with the operating system, and others.

Installation is a breeze with the usual steps of running "./configure", "make", and "make install". The latest release of Modell features a few crucial updates that make it even more attractive to developers. Firstly, there is now an implementation of simple Makefiles instead of GNU autoconf/automake. Secondly, dynamic modules (.so) are now supported, and finally, loading of source modules (.modell) is possible. Furthermore, the new release allows for additional environment variables, including MODELL_MODULEPATH and MODELL_MODULES.

In conclusion, Modell is a versatile and modular programming language that deserves attention from developers who need to embed programming languages in their applications with a C++ API. I have found it to be easy to use, reliable, and well-documented, and the latest updates make it even more convenient and functional.
