This software provides a small desktop widget, or screenlet, that displays the real-time status of your MythTV backend server, allowing you to monitor its performance and connection status with just a glance.
If you are a MythTV user who wants an overview of the status of your backend, look no further than MythStatusScreenlet. This desktop screenlet is inspired by the Mac MythTV Dashboard Widget and provides an at-a-glance view of your system's current state.
MythStatus Screenlet works by polling the XML info page of MythTV's backend (usually on port 6544) and parsing this information to display the status of your backend. You can quickly see what recordings are scheduled for the next ten upcoming programs and which recordings are currently in progress.
To give you a better idea of your system's status, MythStatus Screenlet also shows your Last Guide Update status, a disk space graph, Load Average, and Temperature as provided by MythTV's XML status page. The default theme, called MePo, uses the MePo character from the Media Portal project, which was designed by Glenn Melenhorst and is used with permission. The concept of the MePo theme is taken from the MePo MythTV theme by zdzisekg.
For those unfamiliar with Screenlets, it is both a collection of independently-developed widget applications and the engine that runs them. The engine is primarily designed to run on X11-based compositing window managers, including the Compiz architecture under Linux. Screenlets were initially only scripted in Python and drawn in SVG, but version 0.0.14 added support for web widgets (widgets written in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, similar to widgets for Apple Inc.'s Dashboard).
