.NET Communication Library

If you're a developer using Microsoft's .NET Framework, you may have noticed that some common communication protocols aren't supported. For instance, NNTP and POP3 protocols are not included. Fortunately, there is a solution: Smilla's .NET Communication Library. While still relatively new, this class library aims to fill the gap left by .NET.

By utilizing Smilla's class library, developers can add NNTP protocol support to their applications. This lets you do things like read newsgroups, read common MIME types, post new articles (simple text only), and support attachments. Essentially, this is great for creating Windows Forms and ASP.NET (Web Forms) client newsreader apps.

The library is written in C# but is not marked as CLS compliant. It is open source and distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Additional protocols are planned for future versions and will be included in separate assemblies. All in all, if you need to add NNTP protocol support to your apps with .NET, Smilla's .NET Communication Library is definitely worth checking out.
