Network Configurator is a configuration tool designed for network management.
I recently had a chance to try out Network Configurator, a powerful software tool designed for easy network configuration. As a network configuration tool, it is designed to help even novice users feel more comfortable configuring their network.
One of the interesting things about Network Configurator is that it comes with both a command line and GTK+ interface. That means users can choose the interface that best suits their needs and level of expertise. Plus, with this program, users have access to a wide range of supported network types, including Ethernet, PPPoE, PPTP, Wi-Fi (with the exception of WEP and WPA for now) and dialup.
Before you can use Network Configurator, you'll need to make sure you meet the necessary requirements. Specifically, you'll need the following: GTK+ version 2.6.x, Python and PyGTK. Once you have everything you need, you'll be ready to install the software. Just type 'make' in the project root and start gnetcfg.
One thing to keep in mind as you're using Network Configurator is that to use 'sudo' instead of 'su', you'll need to add something similar to this to the '/etc/sudoers' file: user ALL=NOPASSWD: $NETCFG_SRC_DIR/src/helper.
Finally, it's worth noting that there are some new features available in the latest release of Network Configurator. Most notably, there is an optional libnotify integration that can help streamline the user experience.
