OMSView is a GTK tool designed as a turn viewer for the play-by-email game GalaxyNG.
I recently had the pleasure of using the omsview project, a GTK turn viewer specifically designed for the GalaxyNG play-by-email game. This intuitive tool offers a graphical map and visual access to nearly all the essential information you need from a turn report, as well as some extra tools to help you create a set of orders for your next turn.
Galactic domination is the name of the game, where the ultimate goal is to destroy the other races and become the leader of the galaxy by occupying new planets, producing ships, waging epic battles, and even delving into diplomatic negotiations.
"omsview" offers an array of sophisticated and impressive features, including a zoomable map of the galaxy, incoming group tracers, vectors of your groups in space, markers for battles, an interplanetary distance ruler, a rangefinder, color coding for economic state of planets, and planet details with production forecasts. Additionally, this software offers a display of groups at a planet with many extra details, access to global and personal messages, and an aid for creating ship designs.
Recent updates that have been made to "omsview" enhance its functionality, including the use of the text map in standard report files to give an indication of other players' ships. It also has the ability to cycle through the available turns to get a complete history of the game. Additionally, the standard report parser has been updated to version 5-0g and can handle an email header block and a missed orders warning.
"omsview" boasts a more graceful handling of no report files found, and a bug in the ship designer has been fixed to do with speed on a loaded cargo ship when cargo tech is not 1.00. Finally, an "install" target has been added to the Makefile.
