If you're looking for a Perl script that can generate awesome-looking CD covers using TeX, Playlist-CD Cover might be your answer. This software can create custom designs by using your own templates, and it requires several other tools to work, including Perl-QT, TeX, dvips, and kghostview. Make sure to read the README file before using it.

The script is still experimental, so feel free to send the developer any suggestions or corrections you may have. Keep in mind Playlist-CD Cover has some requirements, such as xterm for running other commands and displaying their output, latex for executing TeX, dvips to convert a TeX DVI output to postscript, kghostview for displaying the generated postscript file, and kwrite to display both the generated TeX file and TeX's log file.

It would be great if Playlist-CD Cover could determine alternatives if certain commands aren't found, but unfortunately, this is not currently implemented. However, you can try adapting the Perl code to your needs or coding a solution that reads a configuration file.

Finally, if you want to install the CD Cover document class for LaTeX, here are the requirements: the TeX typesetting system and the cd-cover document style are both required to run the cdcover-latex Amarok script. Install TeTeX - you can do this with Debian: 'aptitude install tetex-base'. The cd-cover archive is supplied and also available from the website. Read the cd-cover/README for installation instructions. If you don't know where to put the generated cd-cover.cls, locate article.cls on your system and copy cd-cover.sty to _/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/_TeTeX does not always scan all of its directories automatically, so make sure to update its index anytime you make modifications to the tex directories. This can be done by typing 'texhash' in your command line.
