"plot2d" is a powerful software tool that allows users to plot multiple data series from ASCII text files directly to a compressed BITMAP file. It is written in ANSI C with C++ code, which makes it easy to use and encapsulated. The source code is cross-platform, which means it can be compiled across many operating systems and platforms.

One of the key features of "plot2d" is that it is very easy to learn. Users can get started in 5 minutes or less, and the BSD license means that friends in industry can use it without restriction. There are no complicated command-line syntax requirements, and users can configure the software from an easy-to-use ASCII option file or from the command line with options.

"plot2d" is a standalone software program that has its own font and graphics, all written in C, making it platform-independent and very easy for most Windows users. Users can plot multiple series without having to think much about it, and the software supports almost all delimiters, such as ',', whitespace, ';', and ':'. It allows a header comment line (but otherwise no non-numeric data), and plots that include the statistics.

The overall performance of "plot2d" is quick, and users can run it from the console/terminal. To get started, users need to have their ASCII data file ready, open a command prompt or terminal where their data is, then run the software. The program will plot the first column vs the second column. Users can use command line options to plot different columns, generate a default options file, and generate the plot using the easy-to-use option file. Users can also plot with lots of options such as setting X-Y axis limits, chart title, labeling X and Y axis.

The latest version of "plot2d" now supports more GNU standard command line options with short versions and long versions. It also supports plotting a column * -1, which is useful in certain cases. The tar.gz now unloads to a folder, and input from stdin is also now supported. Overall, "plot2d" is a fantastic software tool for plotting multiple data series from ASCII text files virtually on any platform.
