Podsize Widget checks video size and format to ensure that it is compatible with iPods.
Podsize is a helpful Dashboard widget for anyone with an iPod who wants to check that their videos are the correct size and format for copying onto the device. The fifth-generation iPod has a maximum video size that is restricted by pixel count, with MPEG-4 formatted files able to have 230,400 pixels at 480?480, and H.264 formatted files only able to have 76,800 pixels at 320?240.
At the front of the Podsize widget, you can enter the dimensions of your video into the appropriate boxes, and then select a constraint such as 4:3 or 16:9. Once you have done this, the widget will tell you whether or not your video is compatible with your iPod. You can also adjust the dimensions of your video by using the controls at the bottom of the widget.
On the back of the widget, you have the option to switch between H.264 and MPEG-4 video, and to customize Podsize settings to match your specific iPod model.
There are a number of new features in the latest Podsize release. H.264 is now the default encoding option, and the bump buttons have been restyled. Finally, the widget file size has been reduced from 372kb to 172kb.
