Portable Adium

I recently came across Portable Adium, a multiprotocol Adium instant messaging client that supports a variety of platforms such as AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, and many more. What caught my attention is that it comes in a packaged portable application, which means you can take it with you on any portable device like a USB thumb drive, portable hard drive, memory card or even on your internal hard disk as long as you have 24 MB of free space, and run it on any Mac OS X computer.

With Portable Adium, you can carry your contact list, emoticons, message styles, plugins, scripts, sound, and users with you wherever you go. The installation process is simple; all you have to do is drag the "Portable Adium" folder to your preferred device and click on it. Adium will start running, though it might take a while for it to begin. If a local copy of Adium is running, an alert window will prompt you to quit it before you proceed.

Using your existing data is also possible with Portable Adium. If you wish to use your contact list, emoticons, message styles, plugins, scripts, sound, and users that you already have on your computer, you can simply copy the content of the "/Users//Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0" folder to the "profile" folder.
