PyMP3Cut is a Python-based command line tool that enables you to edit and cut large MP3 files with ease.
PyMP3Cut is a command line tool written in Python that offers users an efficient way of cutting huge MP3 files, which exceed 100MB, at high speed. It doesn't require extra disk space and processing time usually needed by visual audio editing tools such as Audacity. Unlike these tools, PyMP3Cut cuts and reads simultaneously, according to the autodetected MP3 frame rate and a timeline passed as a command line argument. Users should note that PyMP3Cut doesn't currently deal with Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MP3 files.
One of the key features of PyMP3Cut is its ability to cut very huge MP3 files at a fast rate without requiring extra disk space and processing time. Unlike Audacity, which converts the MP3 format to WAV, PyMP3Cut doesn't convert anything but rather reads and cuts simultaneously. This allows users to save a significant amount of disk space. PyMP3Cut was designed to slice high quality MP3 recordings of day-long congresses into smaller per-speaker MP3 files. It only needs the exact same amount of disk space as the original file to slice, even less if users plan to skip some parts, which PyMP3Cut can do automatically if you use a specially formatted *SKIP* entry in your timeline. PyMP3Cut has been successfully used many times against several hundredth of megabytes of MP3 files.
