ram2ogg

The ram2ogg project is a software program that utilizes xine to obtain audio from a real audio URL and converts it into an ogg vorbis audio file via oggenc.

The software offers a number of options to the user. These options include the ability to print diagnostic messages while executing via the -D level option. The value of level must be an integer, with higher numbers producing more verbose diagnostic output. Additionally, users can print the command line syntax and option details via the --help or -h option.

Users can also print the program description and version with the -v option. The -o filename option lets users save the results in a specified filename, with the default being the basename of the requested URL used with “.ram” turned into “.ogg”. Finally, users can set the ogg quality with the -q n option, with values between 0 and 10 available. A higher value results in better quality and larger file sizes, while a lower value provides lower quality and smaller files. The default value is 3, and it's important to note that higher values may not significantly improve audio quality due to the nature of real audio compression.
