ROSInfo is a software tool that allows users to monitor signal levels, traffic, and network latency of x86 machines, RouterBoards, and other devices that run Mikrotik RouterOS. This project was specifically designed to operate in conjunction with Mikrotik RouterOS 2.9 and is currently being developed and tested on a large network with many Mikrotik routers. Currently supported and tested are all versions of Mikrotik RouterOS 2.9.

To utilize ROSInfo, certain requirements need to be met. The user must have access to Apache, PHP5 with support for snmp, RRDTool 1.2, SNMP utilities, and finally, Cron or another scheduling daemon. To install, one must unpack the tarball to a directory accessible by Apache. Ensure that the ./rrd directory and its subdirectories are writable by Apache. If they are not, use chown and chmod to make them so. Additionally, the user must open file ./include/config.inc and modify the contents to fit their own specific needs. Finally, set up Cron to start the fetchexec.php file every 5 minutes.

For Cron setup, users can use the following statement placed in /etc/crontab. Make sure to correct the path to the file fetchexec.php, as well as the php binary: */5 * * * * www-data /usr/bin/php /path/to/rosinfo/fetchexec.php > /dev/null 2>&1. To add new routers to the software, users must adjust the variable $systems located in file include/config.inc. It is important to note that the link "Add a new router" on the www pages only instructs network administrators what to do.

It is recommended to avoid starting the fetchexec.php file manually unless you are logged in as a user under which Apache is running. To see debugging information from the fetchexec process, users can uncomment the line $debug=1; in file config.inc. The output will then be saved in a few logfiles. In summary, ROSInfo is a comprehensive software tool designed specifically for Mikrotik RouterOS 2.9 that monitors signal levels, traffic, and network latency of various devices. The installation process is user-friendly but requires certain prerequisites, and the software has a wide range of practical applications for network administrators.
