RusXMMS2 is a package with XMMS patches that enable live recording functions.
The RusXMMS2 package is a software patch for XMMS that enables on-the-fly recoding functions. Originally designed to work with multiple encodings of the same language, the project adapted ID3 tags, M3U and PLS playlists, including filenames, to local settings. It supports both tag reading and writing using any selected encoding. Today, libraries are available that provide the same functionality for almost any program with just a few lines of code. The patches for several music players, ID3 tag libraries and some other programs are available on the project page.
RusXMMS2 offers several key features, including language autodetection, on-the-fly translation between languages using online-services, encoding autodetection for most European and Asian languages, and support for encoding detection plugins. It also supports the recoding and translation of multi-language playlists, as well as a cache to speed-up re-recoding. RusXMMS2 allows users to configure new languages and encodings and offers a shared configuration file for TagLib and LibID3 patches. A separate program for configuration adjustment is also available.
RusXMMS2 offers a GTK/GTK2 UI Library, enabling users to add properties pages to their GTK applications with just three lines of code. The software also provides menu localization opportunities.

These include RusXMMS for visualization and editing of the whole range of ID3 tags using any of eight byte or unicode encodings, support for playlists with non-English filenames, and the translation of foreign languages to English or the locale. Other utilities include TagLib for visualization and editing of ID3 v.1 and v.2 titles, Mpg123 for visualization of ID3 v.1 titles, GFtp for recoding filenames between FTP servers using different encodings, Unzip for recoding filenames from Windows created archives, and 7zip for fixing file names in zip archives.
