Schick

I recently went in search of a quick and easy way to exchange small files such as word documents, pictures and URLs. I found that iChat and other similar tools required too much configuration and registering, whereas I wanted something that would simply "just work". I used to use Mac OS X's FileSharing and the DropBox, but I was not notified of any transfers and had to manually mount the other user's Home DropBox. Additionally, the number of logged in users on Mac OS X Client was limited. Frustrated with the lack of options available, I decided to create my own file-sharing tool, which I named "Schick".

One of the key features of Schick is that it is Rendezvous-enabled, meaning there is no need for any configuration. It also automatically fetches the username and user image from the Macintosh Preferences / Address Book. The only requirement to use Schick is a Rendezvous-enabled network, which can be found in every standard Ethernet Network and is also known as Zeroconf.

The latest version of Schick includes bug fixes. The previous version would crash on transfer of 0-byte files, and there was a bug preventing Schick from transferring files from PPC- to Intel-Macs. The new package installer works flawlessly.

Overall, Schick provides an excellent solution for exchanging files quickly and easily, without any fuss or hassle. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a simple and effective file-sharing tool.
