SCREEM is an editor for Web pages that uses tags to organize the content. With its intuitive interface and powerful features, it makes it easy for anyone to create professional-looking Web pages without needing to know how to code.
SCREEM is an exceptional web development environment that aims to boost productivity by offering quick access to frequently used features. Although designed to work with GNOME desktop environment, SCREEM can be used without it as long as the required libraries are installed.
Unlike other website/HTML editors, SCREEM does not provide a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) display of pages. Instead, it presents the raw HTML source in the editor window. This text-based editing system allows using the markup you want, and provides faster access to commonly-used elements via the toolbar buttons that insert markup at the current cursor position.
Apart from excelling in HTML editing, SCREEM is also a flexible XML editing package that is perfect for general-purpose structured data editing environments.
SCREEM comes with several key features, including page previewing, syntax highlighting, DTD/Doctype parsing, and inline tagging. For previewing your page, although not WYSIWYG, you could still see what your page might look like in a browser. SCREEM also supports up to four external browsers, three of which are customizable. Syntax highlighting is available to ensure easy identification of the present HTML. SCREEM can identify the Doctype used by your page and process the DTD file, making it possible to provide you with the valid tags and attributes for that particular document. Inline tagging can be used to display a popup menu that shows you the valid attributes while typing in a tag.
