ScryMUD

The ScryMUD project is a fully-featured MUD that comes with a Java client known as Hegemon. The client offers an intuitive UI for ScryMUD's Online Building, which is a major plus. ScryMUD is entirely coded from scratch and boasts various desirable features, such as player-controlled stores and houses, brew potions, scribe scrolls, and game-navigated vehicles, among others.

Perhaps the most striking feature of ScryMUD is its wholly original world and code. With over 6000 rooms, 400+ mobs, and 400+ objects, players are always in for a treat. Plus, the integrated Java client makes gameplay seem effortless and rewarding. The client also offers an excellent in-game communication system, including bulletin boards, gossip, yell, and other channels.

The skill and spell system of ScryMUD is truly captivating. The skills and spells are learned in a tree-like manner, meaning players must master the pre-requisites before unlocking the next level. This feature allows players to customize their characters and to some extent, be limited only by their practice points.

Another unique feature of ScryMUD is the game-navigated vehicles, making it stand out from the rest. Plus, NPC scripting is sophisticated enough to create exciting quests and other stimulating events. Mobs have distinct personalities that can influence their combat behavior and are capable of tracking down and killing players.
