Shadowlands Forum

Shadowlands Forum is a sturdy, reliable, and user-friendly chatroom that can be accessed using any telnet client. The Shadowlands Forum project uses UNIX username and password for authentication and has an authlocal module that allows for quick authentication from localhost.

Developed by Jeremy Monin, Dan Chin, and Matt Lochansky, Shadowlands Forum is released under the GNU Public License, with Matt also creating the web documents. The shadowlands community has been using and developing it consistently for the past four years, and it is also utilized by countless other places.

The latest stable release, version 1.9.6.4, has several new features. Users can now start chatting right where they left off with the latest release adding a recap of recent conversation when connecting. Additionally, it is now compatible with Fedora 9/GCC 4.3, and a potential infinite loop in banner printing was fixed.

For PAM support, it now uses the "login" service instead of "slforum," and logging for PAM errors was also added. To help monitor the chatroom, a user count file is now written, allowing for status checks from outside the room. Overall, Shadowlands Forum is an excellent chatroom, worth considering if you're looking for a stable and user-friendly chatroom.
