Simple Cypher is a software program designed to mimic the cypher system originally developed by Thomas Jefferson. This system involved the use of 24 numbered, wooden wheels that were placed on a spindle with two end caps. Each wheel displayed all 26 letters around the edge in a random order, enabling complex messages to be encoded.
The Sender would note the order in which the wheels were placed on the spindle and rotate each wheel as necessary to spell out the message. Once complete, the caps were pressed tight so that all wheels rotated together. Finally, the spindle was rotated to any other row, creating the encyphered message.
The wheel order and the encyphered message were then sent as separate messages to the Receiver, who would reverse the steps to recover the plain text message. Simple Cypher offers an easy-to-use version of this classic system, enabling users to encode and decode messages quickly and efficiently.
