Softflowd

Softflowd is a powerful flow-based network traffic analyser that can export Cisco NetFlow data. It accurately tracks traffic flows by either listening to a network interface or reading a packet capture file. The flows can then be reported to a collecting host via NetFlow™ or summarised within softflowd itself.

The installation process is straightforward with the following commands: ./configure, make, and make install. However, there are some systems that complicate the process. The software has been tested on OpenBSD and Linux operating systems, but only has preliminary support for Solaris 9.

The latest release of softflowd offers several new features such as manual sending of NetFlow v.9 template refreshes, encoding of ICMP type/code into port numbers, and lower-resolution tracking of flows for high-bandwidth users. Additionally, the release also includes several important bug fixes.
