TabletMagic is an incredibly useful open-source driver and control panel for ADB and serial Wacom tablets in Mac OS X. This project was developed with the ambition to support other outdated tablet brands in the future. The daemon and prototype control panel are already implemented in full C++. The KEXT is planned to be included in the near future, making it even more versatile.
In terms of performance, TabletMagic is practical rather than magical. The Keyspan USA28X serial adapter ensures impeccable communication with the Wacom ArtZ-II tablet at both 9600 and 19200 baud rates, thereby placing no stress on the USB system. The full bandwidth that USB 1 can grant (1.2 Megabytes per second) is hardly used as 19200 baud is a low bandwidth, especially compared to the speeds Wacom tablets were designed for. In short, Wacom tablets communicate at the high speeds they deserve in Mac OS X thanks to TabletMagic.
