Tasty Menu is a KMenu alternative that aims to offer optimal usability for its users.
The right part of the menu contains the whole kmenu and takes the aspect from KBFX. The middle column consists of the top level categorization, with the exception of the control center, home folder, and find files, which should only be categories. In the left-most list view, the content of the currently selected category in the middle column is displayed. This structure makes the kmenu appear less huge than a popup menu/submenu structure, even if the number of items remains the same.
Each item in the menu has two rows for the name and description, providing more information to the user. On each selected item, an action icon appears on the right. At the moment, there are "add bookmark" icons on application icons and "remove bookmark" icons on the favorite apps list. The bottom buttons consist of the usual switch user, lock session, and logout functions. Initially, the software developer did not want to include them, thinking that these functions should be delegated to another applet. However, it seems that the multiple menus concept does not work very well in practice, and more real-world testing is needed.
The left-most button displays the user's name and icon, and clicking on it opens the kcm used to edit the user's profile. While this may seem insignificant, it is only an experiment, and it will most likely be merged with the switch user button. The most recent release of Tasty Menu has fixed the issue where all applications should now be displayed again, and a new Brazilian Portuguese translation is now available.
