tffs

Tffs is a software that acts as a FUSE driver, meaning that it allows users to mount a hard disk from a T*PFIELD digital satellite receiver to a directory in their file system tree. With tffs, users can access files on their T*PFIELD disk just like any other file, without any write operations supported. This means that any changes, deletions, or renaming of files are impossible.

So far, tffs has only been tested with the T*PFIELD PVR4000, and it may or may not work with other models. However, if users have another T*PFIELD device and can provide a patch for supporting it, the software's creator is willing to include it in tffs.

In order to use tffs, the kernel must include FUSE support, which has been a part of the official Linux kernel since version 2.6.14. For older versions, FUSE can be acquired separately to be compiled as a kernel module.

Tffs only consists of one program: mount.tffs, which can only be invoked as a superuser. Users must consult the man page for the exact synopsis of the mount.tffs command. To give other users access to the T*PFIELD file system, users must provide the "allow_other" mount option.

To mount the T*PFIELD hard disk to a directory and give other users access, users can use the "mount.tffs /dev/sdb /mnt -o allow_other" command, where /dev/sdb is the device file corresponding to the T*PFIELD hard disk and /mnt is the directory in which the disk is being mounted. The umount /mnt command can be used to unmount the file system or by killing the mount.tffs process.

For convenience, users may also add a line to /etc/fstab to ease mounting and make it possible for non-privileged users. Finally, if mount.tffs is installed in the /sbin directory, it can be called through the regular mount program (/bin/mount) by specifying "-t tffs," making it easy to configure an automounter for mounting a T*PFIELD disk.
