I recently had a chance to try out uuntube, a user-friendly graphical frontend for youtube-dl by Ricardo Garcia Gonzalez. Written in Gambas language, this software offers a variety of features that make it easy to search for and download YouTube content.
With uuntube, users can search for videos, select the ones that interest them, and download their audio in various formats, including .wav, .ogg, and .mp3. Additionally, the software offers the ability to save videos to your computer as well. Alternatively, if you already have the URL for the video you want, you can paste it into the search bar and start the download process with the click of a button.
One of the best things about uuntube is that you don't need a separate installation of youtube-dl to use it. Instead, uuntube uses a slightly modified version of the software that's built right in. If you're looking to compile uuntube from source, it's easy to do so. Simply unpack the source package and run "./compile-uuntube.sh" in the source directory. Once that's done, you'll have an executable called "uuntube.gambas" that you can copy to your $PATH or run directly from the command line.
While uuntube comes with a few limitations, it offers plenty of features to make up for it. For example, users can't initiate simultaneous downloads, but they can perform multiple searches and preview files before downloading. Additionally, if you experience any interruptions during your download, you can easily resume it with uuntube.
